SOCIETY: Bring back service

editorial image

I am over 85 years old and did my National Service in the army in the early 1950s.

This was abolished in the 1960s, and since then I believe this country has gone downhill.

National Service for two years made a man of you and showed you discipline and respect for other people and their property.

The recent rise in violence and prison population is out of control and people are afraid and violated.

There is talk of sending troops into prisons to quell rioters. Why has it come to this? I believe, because the powers that be at the time decided to do away with National Service.

Bring it back and get the country back to where it should be.
