BLYTH SPARTANS failed to gain a point which would have killed off any threat of relegation when they were beaten at home to fellow strugglers Solihull Motors on Tuesday night.
The visitors from the West Midlands will have enjoyed their journey home from Croft Park after taking all three points - a win which guarantees their place in the Blue Square North next season.
The visitors took the lead on 11 minutes when Andy Ducross was on target.
And just before the interval Ducross was again in the right place to beat Adam Bartlett to make it 2-0.
Blyth failed to find a way back into the game and it was not until deep into injury time when Gary Brown scored what was only a consolation goal.
Spartans will have to find the vital point to secure their place in the league away from Croft Park.
They make the trip to Lincolnshire on Saturday to play mid-table Boston United.
They then close their 2007-08 league campaign in the north west against basement side Leigh RMI.
They have the small matter of a Northumberland Senior Cup final against Newcastle United Reserves at St James' Park in between those two fixtures - Wednesday, April 23.
Blyth could actually stay up without picking up another point as only Hucknall Town of the bottom three can now catch Spartans.
If they won their last two games and Spartans lost theirs, both sides would finish on 43 points - but Blyth currently hold an 11-goal advantage in goal difference, which highlights the importance of last Saturday's 6-0 thumping of Worcester City.
