BLYTH SPARTANS remain in the thick of the relegation battle at the foot of the Blue Square North following a disappointing home defeat to fellow relegation strugglers Hinckley United.
In front of an Easter Monday crowd of just under 500, Spartans failed to build on the excellent draw at Burscough on Saturday.
The home side began well and after going close on several occasions – with openings for Gareth Williams and Martin Houlahan the best of the chances – it was Robbie Dale who gave them the lead in the 36th minute.
He curled in a left foot effort which gave Spartans the lead their performance deserved.
However, in first half injury time the visitors were on level terms.
An Owen Storey corner from the right found Adam Webster and he beat Adam Bartlett in the home goal.
Worse was to follow after the break.
The Croft Park crowd of 480 were left stunned when Michael Hedley headed into his own goal midway through the half to put the visitors 2-1 ahead.
Blyth battled to find a way back into the game in an effort to salvage at least a point.
But it wasn't to be and the side who started the day third from bottom rounded off proceedings with a third in the last minute when Webster added his second.
