BLYTH Spartans face Newcastle United Reserves in the final of the Northumberland FA Senior Cup tonight looking to avoid a third straight defeat in the showpiece game.
Last season Spartans went into the final as favourites against Arngrove Northern League outfit Morpeth Town only to lose 3-2.

The year before it was tonight's opponents who took home the silverware.

In fact, Spartans have not won the trophy since the 1993-94 season.

Tonight they face the future of Newcastle United at St James's Park.

And Newcastle Reserves have already announced their line-up, with only James Troisi, Kazenga LuaLua and keeper Fraser Forster with first team experience.

Newcastle's second string coach Adam Sadler said: "We'll have a young side against Blyth, so physically, it'll be a mismatch, but we'll go into the game with confidence.

"The competition is a great experience for the players, and we're very much looking forward to the final."

Newcastle United Reserves line-up as: Forster, Morris, Lough, Doninger, Tozer, Kadar, Godsmark, Troisi, Donaldson, Baheng, LuaLua. Subs: Danquah, Soderberg, Marwood, Ferguson, Grieve.

Blyth reached the final by disposing of three Northern League sides, Ashington, Bedlington Terriers and Morpeth Town.

Newcastle Reserves' path to the final has seen them overcome Alnwick Town, North Shields and Whitley Bay.

Admission to the East Stand is £5 for adults and £2 for concessions. Kick-off 7.30pm.
