SPORTING hopefuls in south east Northumberland could benefit from a new scheme designed to help young sports stars.
Sporting Chance, organised by sporting charity SportsAid and the ASDA supermarket chain, will give young people the opportunity to take part in a number of free sporting sessions throughout the summer.

The scheme will also be providing more than 700 young sports stars, aged 12 to 16-years-old, with a £500 grant.

CEO of SportsAid Tim Lawler said: "There is a real need to support our future medal hopefuls from an early age.

"More investment is essential to ensure we continue to help talented youth athletes who can represent Great Britain in the future."

Young Judo star, Hannah Lewis from North Shields, attended the launch of Sporting Chance at ASDA in Ashington and is one athlete set to benefit from a grant.
