A ROYAL Marine returning home from Afghanistan has helped his Sunday league team get brand new strips.
The Royal Marines unit on Tyneside has decided to sponsor New Delaval and Newsham FC, meaning the team can finally buy new strips.

Players for the team only had one set of strips, which had become worn and inadequate.

For the last two seasons, the team had been stuck with the same strips, but now can play in home and away kits.

Lance corporal Kevin Miller, who recently returned from an eight-month tour in Helmand Province, said: "We were unable to secure sponsorship for new strips.

"This was the third year in a row that we could not find a sponsor."

He said that a discussion with his commanding officer at Royal Marines Tyne led to the sponsorship being pledged.

The strips were provided by Newcastle-based Just Sports.
