But following the four wickets victory over Backworth at Langwell Crescent he admitted afterwards that his troops had looked "a little bit rusty especially in the batting department".
This after a spell of inactivity when rain washed out four of t
he last six matches.
Rutherford said: "It was just nice to be playing cricket again – and we picked up an excellent win.
"We've basically had nothing for a month and I thought it showed today as we were a little bit rusty especially in the batting department."
Rutherford, who lost the toss, added: "Everything went according to plan early on with Graham Whitworth, Stephen Boyd, Chris Watson and Stuart Tiffin all bowling well.
"We kept them down to three an over which I was happy about as it was a good batting track and a fast outfield.
"But then Puri and Green forged a partnership followed by Bradford and Saini and to be fair they batted well although I was disappointed we didn't restrict them to a score of 150."
He continued: "Batting wise we looked rusty but the comeback all started with the partnership between Greg Williams and Scott Dunn before Williams and Dale Ross featured in the stand which won us the game.
"I was pleased to get a win because after back to back defeats against Swalwell and Tynedale in our last two completed matches it seems like an age since our last victory."
And skipper Rutherford applauded the innings of Williams: "Greg's innings was a fantastically well controlled knock," he said.
"He is awkward to bowl at and on his day can be the best batsman in our team."
