ASHINGTON seconds had another frustrating afternoon on Saturday – even though their match away at Lanchester in Durham initially beat the weather.

The Colliers bowled out the league leaders for 117 with James Richards – on a hat-trick at one stage – taking 4-29 from 11 overs.

Skipper for the day Dougie Potts collected 2-30 with one wicket each for Matty Collins, James Lovat and Lee Collis.

Ashington were 65-3 in reply with Adam Nichol unbeaten on 22 when the rain came – with the game consequently called off.

Ashington club chairman Martin Thewlis said: “If the rain hadn’t intervened I’m sure we would have cruised to victory.

“Our players were delighted at the news that the game was given the thumbs up, but they were also disappointed when the weather interrupted things again.

“Our aim is to go through the season unbeaten and our brief will be to develop the younger players in preparation for the first team.”
