Ashington Cricket Club first XI will be chasing silverware on Friday night (July 21) when they travel to face Percy Main at the St John’s Green ground to contest the grand final of the Go North East ‘A’ Division League Cup.

The Colliers lifted the trophy last season with victory over Ryton – the side they knocked out only last week at the semi-final stage of this year’s competition – and skipper Ben Harmison said at the weekend that all of his squad are looking forward to the occasion. Harmison was one of several players who were unavailable for the clash at Parsons Park last Wednesday, but he said: “It’s brilliant to get to the cup final and all of the lads are looking forward to it but it’s going to be hard for us to finalise the 11 players. We are still in the Smithson Cup and are right back in the title race so we have a big few months ahead.”

Friday’s game starts at 6pm.
