A depleted Ashington second XI were on the losing side of a hard-fought contest against third-placed Tynedale at Priors Flat on Saturday.
After a slight rain delay the game was reduced to 41 overs with Ashington batting first.
Matthew Potts and Jack McCarthy made steady progress to see off the experience and skill from opening bowlers Darling and Newton with only the loss of opener Doug Potts with the score on 52-1.
Tynedale then took wickets at regular intervals and the visitors eventually reached 125 all-out, largely thanks to Stevie Williams with some late runs (36).
Clark took four wickets for the hosts.
Ashington’s bowlers and fielders ensured Tynedale made hard work of the run chase, Martin Thewlis (3), Matthew Potts (3) and Alex Storey (2) with the wickets, one thanks to an outstanding catch from Chris Watson on the short boundary.
Ashington pick up six points and are 27 clear with two games to go.
