Ashington Cricket Club’s third XI – already crowned league champions only recently – reached the final of the Ian Appleby Cup in midweek with a 33 runs victory over Ponteland at the Sports Centre ground.
Doug Potts (54) and Scott Dunn (65) sewed the seeds for the win after featuring in a substantial first wicket partnership of 105 in 11 overs before the Colliers closed on 163-6 from their 20 overs.
Opener Simon Raw then struck 23 and Andrew Morgan an unbeaten half century – but it was not enough as the Wansbeck side got home by a 33 runs margin.
Graham Rogerson took 4-11 from three overs and Matty Potts 2-29.
Ashington will face the winners of the South North v Benwell Hill clash in the final at a date to be decided.
