Ashington edge Bedlington in tight derby clash
ASHINGTON striker Stephen Young was once again the hero as he scored both goals in the 2-1 Bank Holiday Monday derby win over Bedlington Terriers.
Young rounded off a superb weekend for himself and his team with a goal in each half.
The striker's double followed a hat-trick on Saturday when Ashington came from 2-0 down to seal a dramatic 3-2 FA Cup win.
Against Bedlington, Young fired the Colliers in front on ten minutes.
But the Terriers fought back and levelled just before half-time when Ian Dixon beat Karl Dryden in the visitors goal.
But it was Ashington's day as on 68 minutes that man Young struck again.
Bedlington, who went into the game on the back of a 2-0 win at Stokesley on Saturday courtesy of goals from Alex Benjamin and Anthony Shandran, battled for an equaliser but the Colliers held on.
Bedlington Terriers: Newton, Morton, Brackstone (Christensen 46 mins), Flynn, Carr, Elliott, Southern (Henderson 76 mins), Dixon (Graydon 45 mins), Benjamin, Shandran, Stewart.
