Bedlington suffer another heavy defeat

Bedlington first XI suffered another heavy defeat when they lost by eight wickets to Annfield Plain at Hirst Head on Saturday.

Lewis Tanney, Josh Watson and Chris Pearson were replaced by Nicky Carr and Brandon and Nicky Douglas.

On losing the toss the home side were put in, and Michael Levison and Kev Harnett batted steadily before the former was bowled for 11 with the score on 26.

Wickets fell regularly from then onwards with only Harnett (31) and Peter Finch (20) providing any real resistance.

The hosts posted 90 all out in the 34th over. Neil Killeen finished with 5-23 and Halliday 3-10.

Plain made quick work of the chase with Graham Carr racing to 65 off 40 balls before being removed by Douglas.

Carr took the other wicket to fall as the visitors reached their target in the 15th over.

The second XI went down by seven wickets to Plain’s second string after posting 145.

Chris Ferguson and Bob Gibson were the main run contributors.

Next week both teams face Lanchester with the firsts at home and the seconds away.
