Blyth finish their season with a flourish

AS the curtain came down on the weather-hit season, Blyth finished off with a victory over Blue Flames.

Blyth won the toss and put the visitors in, with McKeever and Burkul openin the batting.

Kemp and Ebdale struggled to get a breakthrough, with the batsmen being ruthless with anything loose.

They finally broke the partnership when Singh caught Burkul for 18 off Ebdale with the score on 30.

Skipper Pinnington came in and the pair started pushing the score along.

With 58 on the board Lawrence bowled McKeever for 13. With another 11 runs added, Lawrence struck again, trapping Pinnington.

Singh got in on the act when he bowled Brown for seven then trapped Bell lbw for five.

Horner was next out before Awan and Thorley added 49 before Ebdale had Anwan caught at deep mid-off for 38.

Ebdale got the final wicket when Thorley was caught by Singh for eight as Blue Flames totalled 75.

Blyth’s bowling figures were A Kemp 0-42, D Ebdale 3-60, S Singh 4-24 and M Lawrence 2-44.

Dent made his intensions clear from the start while Roberts played a secondary role.

Brown finally got the breakthrough in the 12th over when he trapped Roberts lbw for seven. The pair had put on 56 for the first wicket.

Cotterill joined Dent as he raced to his 50 from 53 balls including 11 fours.

Cotterill got in on the act when he cover drove Pinnington for a six.

Dent and Cotterill moved the score to 103 when Cotterill miscued a drive and was caught for 21.

Lawrence was next in but was trapped lbw by Horner for three.

Kinnair also came and went three runs later.

Quinn came in as Dent was closing in on his century with seven runs needed and he wanted two for the milestone.

But Awan bowled a full toss which Dent missed and it went for four byes.

Dent went for a drive the next ball but he missed it as it turned back through the gate and bowled him for 98.

Dent hit 18 fours in his near two-hour stay at the crease, with his 98 coming from just 114 balls.

Rowell joined Quinn and this pair saw Blyth home with Quinn hitting a massive six for victory.

Quinn remained 22 not out and Rowell one not out.

Blue Flames bowling figures were K Brown 1-44, A Horner 1-34, S Pinnington 1-50, J Thorley 1-25 and S Awan 1-7.
