The old adage of catches win matches certainly applied to Blyth on Saturday.
They dropped 12, with five going down in the first seven overs.
These proved costly in the end as Allen led the way with an excellent 69, with Doyle (26) and Fenwick (23) contributing to a total of 192-8.
Three bowlers took two wickets each for Blyth – Thompson, Hudspith and Gill.
Blyth’s reply got off to a bad start with two wickets falling for just five runs.
Rowell and Hudspith moved the score forward before Rowell went for 16 then Hudspith for 14.
Gill hung around before going for 25 and young Ben Blackett finished 21 not out as Blyth fell 47 runs short.
Patrick was the pick of the Bates bowlers with 3-31.
