WITH Blyth seconds playing their first league game of the season without any outdoor practice, it was always going to be tough going at Hebburn.
Hebburn had a match winner in Brian McVittie, who held the home side’s innings together with a fine 83 in a total of 173-8.
Pick of the Blyth bowling was Kevin Thompson with 4-33.
Blyth’s reply got off to a sound start, however, once both openers were out the rest struggled on an uneven track.
James Stewart scored 21 and Ryan Kirkup 14, but extras top scored with 26 as they were all out for 98.
On Saturday the seconds are at home to Monkseaton seconds at 1pm.
