Despite a five-wicket haul from David Seccombe, Bomarsund first team were beaten by Blue Flames by 36 runs on Saturday.

After losing the toss the visitors found themselves on the back foot after the hosts managed a total of 278 all out.

Amjad Khan (56) and Faisal Amin (52) proved to be the thorn in Bomar’s side when they managed to preserve the innings, which took them into a commanding position at the half-way point.

Seccombe finished with 5-54 from his overs, taking the final wicket of the innings with the penultimate ball, while Chris Mollon took 3-34.

After a terrific effort chasing what was a remarkable total, Bomar fell short as they were bowled out for 242 from 46.1 overs.

Opener Adam Purvis top scored with a 115-ball 74, while Scott McBride (43) and Jonathan Scope (32) also contributed with the bat.

Bomarsund picked up maximum batting and bowling points, but the defeat leaves them team winless this season in the Northumberland Cricket League premier division.

They now turn their attention to the Enid Farmer cup on Thursday, May 28, as they welcome Alnmouth & Lesbury to the Welfare, while Blagdon Park are the visitors on Saturday, May 30.
