A brother and sister pairing have won gold medals at the World Martial Arts World Championships.

Callum Gray, 14, and sister Eleanor, 12, are students at East Meets West Black Belt Academy in Bedlington Station.

They represented Team England in the championships in Rugby, Warwickshire, where both were able to overcome stiff competition from fighters from all over the world and win their ultimate goal of a gold medal.

It has not been an easy path to success for the two young fighters, who have trained for this moment for six years.

They have fought in local and national tournaments and in previous World Championships, coming close to their dream, but until now unable to meet their goal.

Senior instructor at East Meets West, Colin Beddow, said: “These two youngsters have shown tremendous determination and passion on their journey towards their world titles.

“The academy would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone from Bedlington for their support.”
