Ashington Cricket Club’s first XI scooped a double success in cup matches in midweek over Newcastle City and Ponteland in the Smithson Cup and League Cup respectively.
And overseas player Anirudh Singh enjoyed both games with two high scoring knocks.
At home against Newcastle City on Tuesday, Singh and Simon Prudhoe featured in a blistering opening partnership of 127 inside 14 overs before the former was caught by Mukhtar off Mo Ali for a scorching 77, which included five fours and five sixes.
Prudhoe also departed after a superb innings of 58, and with a dashing cameo from Ben O’Brien (28 not out) and Jack Jessop (9 not out), the Colliers closed on 181-2 from their 20 overs.
In reply, Sonu Singh accounted for Ahmed and Ali was run out leaving the visitors on 21-2.
Mohammed (46), Choundry (27 not out) and Mukhtar (23) all made contributions but the Colliers marched on after recording victory by a 50-run margin.
The following night, Quarrell (63) and Wright (41) racked up a century stand and Seymour struck an unbeaten 30 as hosts Ponteland ended on 148-3 from their allocation.
Jack Jessop fell in the opening over but Anirudh Singh and Ben O’Brien were again in supreme form for Ashington.
Singh blazed ten boundaries and two sixes in 65 from only 29 deliveries whilst O’Brien struck four fours and a six in a run a ball unbeaten score of 44 as they shared a near hundred stand for the second wicket in only eight overs.
Sonu Singh also figured with the bat, smashing a quick fire undefeated 29 which saw the Colliers home from the second ball of the 18th over.
