Angels remain at the summit

ASHINGTON Angels continued their quest for the league title and stay top after a 5-1 victory over Prudhoe at Pegswood Welfare on Sunday.

The visitors shocked the home side by taking the lead after ten minutes following sloppy defending, but Laura Jobson lobbed the keeper to level before the interval.

Ashleigh Bett’s shot deflected off a defender early in the second half to put Ashington 2-1 ahead, and the same player added her second and the Angels’ third with a well drilled effort into the top corner.

At this stage Ashington were on top and a long range drive by Karen Wright made it 4-1 before in the final minute a superb shot by Kristie Fenwick cannoned off the bar and went into the net.

Ashington: Powell, Hooper, Murphy, Caldow, Kavanagh, Naples, Clasper, Fenwick, Latto, Wright, Jobson. Subs: Tighe, Bolton.

On Sunday Ashington are at home to Forest Hall at Pegswood Welfare, kick-off 1.30pm.
