Ashington Ladies maintain 100 per cent league run with 7-0 success

Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies extended their 100 per cent league record with a convincing win against Walbottle on Sunday at Newburn Leisure Centre.

Ashington started well and took the lead on five minutes when Kristie Fenwick fired home.

The home keeper made good saves to deny Laura Fairley and Megan Tighe before Sarah Taylor’s strike from just inside the box increased the lead.

Ashington were well in control and the ever-lively Fenwick rifled in the third with a shot from 15 yards.

Laura Jobson hit the post just after the restart and the home keeper made good saves from Karen Wright and Jobson before a move involving Taylor and Kavanagh led to Laura Jobson slamming in the fourth from 20 yards.

Fairley hit the bar before Laura Blake scrambled in her first Ashington goal from Fairley’s teasing corner.

Lauren Kavanagh made it six when she stabbed home and minutes later Kavanagh got her second when Fenwick supplied the pass for her to fire home the seventh.
