Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies cemented runners-up spot in the Northumberland County Women’s League with a convincing victory against fourth placed Cramlington on Sunday.
Ashington started well, Kristie Fenwick shooting narrowly wide then both sides had chances but Jade Gibbs in the home goal and the visitors stopper Louisa Paxton pulled off good saves.
Then on 41 minutes, Taylor slipped the ball through to Fenwick who hit an angled drive in the far left corner to open the scoring.
Ashington increased their lead ten minutes into the second period when a shot by Karen Wright was pushed out by Paxton and Megan Tighe reacted quickly to stab home.
Minutes later, Sarah Bennett netted the third when she blasted in from 20 yards.
Gibbs made a good save before the visitors pulled a goal back though Chloe Roylance.
However, Ashington made it 4-1 when Wright was on hand to steer home, and eight minutes later the same player was on hand to make it five.
With seven minutes left the prolific Wright notched her hat-trick with a rasping shot to complete the scoring.
Ashington Woodhorn Lane Ladies spokesperson Alf Marchetti thanked the committee, manager John Waugh, players, helpers, sponsors and Ashington CFC for making their first season such a success.
