ASHINGTON CFC have lined up a mouthwatering pre-season friendly against a Newcastle United XI in early August.
At the club’s annual presentation awards ceremony on Saturday evening, club chairman Ian Lavery announced the match which will take place at Woodhorn Lane on Friday, August 5.
Colliers boss Gary Middleton, pictured, said: “I’m delighted with the prospect of Newcastle United coming to our ground for a pre-season friendly.
“There are strong links between the Newcastle United Foundation; Newcastle United and Ashington through assistant manager Neil Winskill and myself and also with the relationship we have with Newcastle Reserves manager Peter Beardsley and consequently we have been able to secure this fixture.”
Middleton added that the club are hoping to confirm more warm-up games in the coming weeks.
“We are trying to finalise clashes with Gateshead, Berwick Rangers and Blyth Spartans along with some other sides from other leagues in order to set up a good pre-season programme for us,” he added.
