Ashington FC’s appeal to the Football Association following their removal from the final of the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup has been rejected.
The Colliers defeated Newton Aycliffe 3-1 in the semi-final at Woodhorn Lane at the end of March but it was later revealed that the club had fielded an ineligible player.
Following a meeting of the league management committee, the Wansbeck club were withdrawn from the competition with Aycliffe reinstated but they duly lodged an appeal to the FA which was heard in Newcastle today.
Club chairman Ian Lavery said after the hearing: “The club at all times have been above board about this issue and the although the result of the FA appeal is disappointing it’s not unexpected and it’s now time to dust ourselves down, draw a line and focus on the future.”
The final between Shildon and Newton Aycliffe will be held on Tuesday (May 5) at Bishop Auckland’s Heritage Park ground.
