A young Ashington RAOB side went down 3-1 at North Shields Tun in a keenly contested Justsport NFA Sunday Cup first round match.
Kieran Robson gave the Buffs the lead midway through the first half but Shields equalised right on half-time and added two more in the second half to wrap up the victory.
In the Morpeth Sunday League division one, Bedlington Barrington Arms won a hard fought victory against HMP Northumberland 4-3 thanks to a Calum Donohoe penalty and a hat-trick from John Paxton, two of which were given a helping hand by adefender on their way into the goal. HMP’s goals came courtesy of a brace from Scott Willis and Glen Walker.
The Wharton Arms defeated Amble Tavern 6-1 with Chris Dobey (3), Joe Moscrop (2) and Scott Marshall on target.
Morpeth Shambles edged out Amble Blue Bell 3-2 with goals from Ryan Naber, Andrew Barker and Kyle Shaw. Blue Bell replied through Gary Taylor and Liam Jefferson.
Bedlington FC picked up their first win of the campaign with a 5-2 scoreline against Alnmouth Argyle. Michael Caulder and Fred Chambers both scored twice with Gregory Rearden was also on target. Both Alnmouth goals were scored by James Woolet.
Stobswood picked up a good 4-0 victory away to Morpeth Wansbeck.
