Ashington sign ex-Blyth Spartans defender Phil Cave

FORMER Blyth Spartans defender Phil Cave has signed for Ashington CFC.

The 25-year-old left back has agreed terms on a deal this week.

Ashington boss Gary Middleton swooped to bolster his defensive options only 24 hours after announcing his first new signing of the summer – central midfielder Paul Antony from Newcastle Benfield.

Middleton said: “When Phil got released from Blyth Spartans last season we tried to sign him then, but he wanted a break from football.

“He has been chased by two or three top north east clubs so naturally we are thrilled he has agreed terms with us for next season.

“Phil has a quality left foot and can play anywhere down the left hand side.”

Before playing in the green and white at Croft Park, Cave was on Newcastle United’s books and also played for Gateshead.
