Ashington CFC boss Gary Middleton has signed ex-Bedlington Terriers and Newcastle Benfield midfielder Stuart Elliott.
The 36-year-old – a football coach at the Newcastle Academy – put pen to paper and ahead of Saturday’s curtain raiser against Jarrow Roofing at Woodhorn Lane.
Both Elliott and Middleton used the word ‘experienced’ as being a key factor in the move.
Middleton said: “Stuart will bring some know how and experience to the squad, something which we didn’t have last season.”
London born Elliott said: “I was actually asked to come to Ashington a couple of years ago, before I got a knee injury, and I’ve regretted it ever since, so I was over the moon when I was asked a second time.
“I will definitely be looking to lend some experience and hopefully at the same time give them something which I was told they lacked last season.
“I was at Bedlington before injuring my cruciate then the back part of last season I played at Newcastle Benfield to build my fitness back up.
“I’m delighted to come to Ashington and I’ve really enjoyed it so far.”
