Ashington FC manager Gary Middleton swooped towards the end of last week to secure the signing of goalkeeper Conor Grant on a loan deal with neighbours Blyth Spartans.
The 24-year-old student, who went straight into the Colliers side which consequently lost 2-0 against Morpeth in the local derby on Saturday, had no hesitation in putting pen to paper.
“I was impressed by the set up at Ashington when Blyth Spartans came to Woodhorn Lane for the Northumberland Senior Cup semi-final last season so I was more than happy to sign,” he said.
“I need to get some games under my belt, but it was quite difficult for me today because it was the first time I had met a lot of the lads.”
Grant was critical of his debut when he said: “I can’t say I was happy with my performance because we lost two nil.
“I have conceded two goals and my job is to keep a clean sheet.
“Ashington have had a bad start to the season which carried on today and my goal is to try my best for the Colliers whilst I am here.”
Manager Gary Middleton said: “Conor is with us on loan. He is a good addition although he cannot play for us in the FA Cup.”
