Ashington FC skipper Andrew Johnson scored a brace in Saturday’s 4-1 victory over Crook Town on Saturday to take his goals tally for the season to 21.

But the 27-year-old could not hide his disappointment on missing out on a hat-trick.

“Under normal circumstances, I wouldn’t have been happy with 21 at this stage of the campaign,” he said.

“But considering I missed 12 weeks of the season I cannot complain.

“I should have had a hat-trick today, and especially as I got two early on.

“The first one followed a good flick on from Glen Taylor. The ball ran through and the keeper chose to stay and hasn’t rushed out, which made it quite difficult for me, but I managed to place my shot into the far corner.

“The second was a good team goal where the ball has been played out wide and Tony Stephenson has unselfishly put it on a plate for me.

“That is now six wins in a row for us and we have got to look to keep the run going.”
