In the Morpeth Sunday League’s ES Johnson Challenge Cup quarter-finals, Bedlington Barrington Arms recorded a 6-1 win over HMP Northumberland.

‘The Monkey’ took their place in the semi-finals thanks to two good headers from Chris Dobey, a clinical brace from striker Dylan Williamson, a composed finish from the edge of the box by winger Craig Stafford and the pick of the bunch was a scorching 20-yard free kick from Rob Eastway.

The HMP goal was scored by Ashley Derbyshire.

In the day’s other quarter-final, Amble Tavern and Ashington RAOB could not be separated after extra time with the game finishing 2-2.

Darren Reay and Shaun Gibson both found the net for ‘The Buffs’ with Ross Gair and Matty Graham on target for Tavern.

Amble eventually triumphed in a prolonged penalty shoot-out 8-7, despite the efforts of goalkeeper Sean McCafferty who put in a man of the match performance.

In the Revely Cup semi-final second leg, Morpeth Shambles were chasing a 2-1 deficit against East Chevington and they levelled the encounter thanks to a goal from Sam Walton.

Extra time failed to yield a further breakthrough and Morpeth Shambles progressed with a 4-3 win on penalties. Shambles will now play HMP Northumberland in the final with a date from the league expected to be announced shortly.

North End Trap moved another step closer to the division two title as they edged out Ashington Conchie 3-2 with goals from Kevin Bell, Josh Baston and John Spiers.

Conchie’s goals were scored by Paul Key and Michael Freathy.
