In the Morpeth Sunday League ES Johnson Challenge Cup final, newly crowned division one champions Amble Tavern won the trophy after defeating Bedlington Barrington Arms 2-0.

Amble started the game strongly and were deservedly two goals up inside the first 15 minutes.

The first came after a surging run down the flank by Amble’s winger and his cross into the box was finished from close range by Matty Graham.

The second was also a close-range effort as a shot was parried out by the Barrington keeper into the path of striker Josh Hay who smashed the ball into the top corner.

The score remained 2-0 at the break and the second half was relatively uneventful with Barrington unable to find a breakthrough as the Amble back four was superbly marshalled by man of the match Nathan Buddle.

The Morpeth Sunday League extended its thanks to all cup final sponsors: BlitzBeauty, Stakeford & NU Heat North East, Newbiggin.

In the only division one game of the day, Ashington RAOB played out a 3-3 draw with Stobswood, a result that guaranteed Amble top-spot and the title.

In division two, East Chevington defeated Ashington Conchie 6-1.
