In division one of the Morpeth Sunday League, Bedlington Barrington Arms recorded a solid 4-0 home victory over last year’s champions Amble Tavern and moved up to second place in the league.
Bedlington took the lead ten minutes in when a long ball by Chris Moffitt was expertly controlled on the chest by John Paxton and he found the bottom left corner of the goal with an assured finish.
The lead was doubled just before half-time as full back Curtis Williamson broke down the right and his delivery found David Scott lurking at the back post, and although his initial effort was well saved by Rikki Hume, he smashed the rebound into the roof of the net.
They went three up midway through the second half with Moffitt once again involved as he played in youngster Chris Coe who managed to beat the goalkeeper with a smart finish.
John Paxton got his second and the final goal as his near post shot wrong footed the Amble goalkeeper.
Morpeth Shambles narrowly defeated Morpeth Wansbeck thanks to goals from Ashley McAlpine (2) Ross Donnelley, Matthew Adamson and Matthew Rowlinson. Wansbeck’s scorers were James Davison (2) Michael Bray and Stephen Harrogate.
The Wharton Arms recorded a 3-0 win over Stobswood with Joe Moscrop netting twice and Curtis Taylor also on target.
