Bedlington Town Bulldog girls’ team have just returned from their first tournament in France where they won the U13’s International Cup.

In five group games they scored 50 and conceded none.

They then won the best game of the tournament when they came back from 2-0 down to score two penalties before going on to win 4-3 on penalties.

In the final they played French team FFA 77 and won 1-0.

The team has had great support from sponsors SM Building Services and WL Straughan & Son Ltd, High5it and She Kicks magazine, plus best wishes from England Ladies player Jill Scott, who some of the girls have trained with.

Last season they won the Northumberland Girls U12’s league and cup then went on to play in various tournaments across the country, winning six out of seven tournaments.

The addition of two new coaches, Katie Luther and Stacy Crooks, who are both associated with Newcastle United Ladies, has helped the girls grow in confidence and ability, and they are currently playing in the Pin Point Recruitment League at U14 level and are so far unbeaten.

The Bulldogs are managed by Michael Third, who also coaches Newcastle United Ladies and recently accepted a position with the England Community Youth programme.

The girls have responded well to Micheal and appreciate all the time and effort he puts in to the team.
