COLLIERS’ new signing Phill Bell says he is looking forward to re-starting his career following his return to Ashington FC this week.

The shock move, which involved Chris Fawcett returning to Whitley Bay was a done deal on Thursday night, but the striker says he is happy to be back with the Woodhorn Lane outfit.

Bell said: “I wouldn’t have left Ashington for any other club other than Whitley Bay.

“I had a great time there last season, and as I mentioned previously I wouldn’t have ever left for anyone but Whitley Bay.

“Hopefully I can start where I left off, scoring goals and contributing to an ever progressing team and club.”

The 28-year-old notched 18 goals for the Colliers last season, and with injuries to Darren Lough, Stephen Young and Gareth Bainbridge, will be a welcome asset to Gary Middleton, who also lost Jamie Clarke to Whitby.

Bell is expected to go straight into the squad for Ashington’s FA Carlsberg Vase tie on Saturday against Norton and Stockton Ancients.
