The goalkeeper for Blyth Town Under-11s girls’ team, Emily Aldcroft, has picked up the top award for her age group at the annual awards of the Northumberland Girls Football League which took place at Gosforth racecourse on Sunday.
Sixty-five teams who take part in the leagues, ranging from age groups under-10 to under-16, are invited to an end of season presentation where every player who takes part is awarded their own individual medal as an appreciation for their efforts and commitment during the season which has just finished.
After this, one player is selected from each group to receive the ultimate accolade for their individual age group and Aldcroft picked up the award for her consistent and brilliant displays between the posts throughout the whole season.
A spokesperson for the team said: “She has deserved this award for her commitment, effort and ability in her role.
“She has never complained and has always performed the role with a smile on her face.
“She is a credit to herself and her team-mates are all very proud of her, as are her team managers.”
