Bubbles and Grand secure narrow home wins

The Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League premier division saw two Ashington sides gain home wins.

Bubbles beat North Shields Wooden Doll 2-1 with goals from Kris Allington and Keith Sage. Nicky Thompson replied for wooden Doll.

The Grand had to fight all the way to win by the odd goal in seven against Blyth and Tyne, who led 3-1. Brent Aisbitt (3) and Stuart Hall were on target for Grand with Martin Robinson (2) and Iain Locke scoring for Blyth and Tyne.

Division one saw Blyth Last Orders lose their first league game of the season, going down 2-1 at Newsham Victory, with their goals coming from Craig Frazer and Chris Coppen. Martyn Hepple scored for Last Orders.

United Services went down 2-0 at home to Guide Post SC with goals from Ahley Duff and Callum Swinney.

FC Beacon also went down at home, 5-0 against High Street, who had Anthony Goldie (3), Chris Laidlaw and Adam Emmerson on target.

On Sunday Ashington Bubbles and Burradon and New Fordley meet in the SA Randolph Cup final at Bedlington Terriers’ Welfare Park, at 2pm. League sponsors Standard Security sponsor the final.
