Bubbles are popped in cup despite leading game

CUP matches were the focus of attention in the Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck League at the weekend.

In round one of the Saints Shield, league leaders High Street went down 2-0 at Blyth South Beach thanks to goals from Andrew Keenan and Michael Meyers

Round two of the Alan Davison Cup sawAshington Bubbles put in a superb performance at home against premier side Blyth Comrades.

They led 2-1 at one stage before Comrades went 3-2 in front and eventually 5-3 winners.

Scoring for Bubbles was Dean Mason, Stephen Burt and Kris Allington. Terry Self led the scoring for Comrades with a hat-trick with further goals from Dean Fitch and Chris Mitchell.

Ashington Central went down 7-1 at home against Monkseaton Arms. Gary Wallace scored the consolation goal for Central.

Ashington Mortimer’s Martin Humble scored both goals in their 2-1 win at home against Whitley Bay Seahorse United.

Ashington Rohan Kanhai’s woes continue as they went down 10-0 at home to premier division side North Shields Gunner.

Bedlington Community put in an excellent performance at home against premier division Milbourne Arms but went down 1-0 thanks to a goal by David Brotherick.

Ashington Grand Street beat first division Blyth Masons Arms 2-1. Chris Hogg scored both their goals. Nick Brannighan scored for Masons.

Blyth Seahorse were taken to extra time by Blagdon Arms before winning 4-3 thanks to a goal in the final minute. Scoring for Seahorse was Steven Craig (2), Darren Carr and Ray Armstrong. On target for Blagdon were Mark Herron (2) and Stephen Scott.

Cowpen Percy Arms threw away a two-goal lead in their home tie with Ashington White House. Leading 3-1 they hit the self-destruct button and lost 4-3.

Goals for Percy came from Steven Rylatt (2) and Dan Hai Vuong. Scoring for White House was John Appleby (2), Shaun Dodds and Stephen Keys.

North Shields Royal Arms had a comfortable 8-0 win at home against fellow division two side Blyth Ridley Park.

Whitley Lodge Kittiwake went out to holders Burradon and New Fordley 8-1. Goals for Burradon came from David Atkinson (4), Ian Lee, Kieron Parsons, Daniel Young and Craig Pickering.

Division one saw Ashington Grand won 5-2 at home against New Delaval and Newsham. Graham Todd (2), Nicky Dunn, David Jones and Wayne Tait scored for Grand. James Quinn and Ricki Cook for the visitors.

Division two saw New Hartley win 2-0 at home against Cramlington Phoenix. Andrew Wilson and Nick Jefferson scored the goals.

Newsham Black Diamond went down 5-1 at home against Marden Residents.

Craig Frazer scored for the Diamond. Residents’ scorers were Dean McCarthy (2), Shaun Nolan (2) and Jorden Fry.
