PROUD Ashington CFC chairman Ian Lavery said the club are experiencing exciting times and that their FA Cup run would not be a flash in the pan.
Speaking after the Colliers had bowed graciously out of the FA Cup in the fourth qualifying round against Grimsby Town on Saturday, he said: “Undoubtedly Ashington are an outfit who are going places.
“The fact that before Saturday it was 30 years since the club last reached the fourth qualifying round of the FA Cup is a clear indication of that progress.
“The town seems to be now pulling together and getting behind the club, and yes, it’s exciting times.”
Looking ahead to the future, Lavery said that sponsorship is a key factor.
He added: “As chairman, I’m determined to ensure that the current exciting times will be no flash in the pan and that the way in which the club is being developed will be sustained into the future.
“This can only be done by sponsorship from local businesses within our area which has played a significant role to date.”
Reflecting on Ashington’s run in the FA Cup this term, the club chairman, pictured, concluded: “My message is a massive ‘well done’ to everyone connected with the club.
“From the players to the management and the supporters.”
