ASHINGTON CFC have an interesting start to the new STL Northern League first division campaign with an away trip to Norton & Stockton Ancients on Saturday, August 13 .
The Woodhorn Lane outfit will then host newly promoted second division champions Newton Aycliffe on Tuesday, August 16, followed by a short journey up the coast to meet history making Whitley Bay at Hillheads in the local derby on August 23.
An upbeat Colliers boss Gary Middleton, who cannot wait for the curtain raiser, is not fazed by the opening programme at all.
He said: “I’m happy with the start. There are no easy games in the league and we will look forward to them.”
Bedlington Terriers are also away on the opening day as they travel to Newton Aycliffe.
The first local derby will take place on Bank Holiday Monday, August 28, when they travel to neighbours Ashington, and the Terriers make their first trip to Bishop Auckland’s new stadium on September 29.
The Welfare Park outfit are due to end their season on April 28, 2012 at home to Norton And Stockton.
In the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup, Bedlington have a bye in the first round and will be away to either Seaham Red Star or Crook Town in the second round.
Ashington have been handed a home tie against Chester-le-Street in the first round of the compeition with a trip to Alnwick Town for the winners.
