Cup wins for Ashington Northern and Burradon and New Fordley

In the Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League George Davison Cup final, Burradon and New Fordley proved far too strong for division one side Spring Gardens.

The underdogs went in front inside two minutes through Tony Lucas, but Burradon hit back to level before Ian Lee made it 2-1.

The New Firdley outfit tan away with the game in the secon half and eventually won 7-1 as Spring Gardens had a man sent off.

Dale Pearson (2), Jordan Watson (2) and David Atkinson added the second half goals.

Colin Bassam from sponsor Port Training Services presented the trophies. Man of the match went to Pearson.

In the JD Marnock Cup final, sponsored by Reay Security Blyth, Ashington Northern beat High Street 2-0.

High Street’s Anthony Goldie had a penalty saved in the first half, and just as the tie appeared to be heading for extra time, Daniel McDonald broke the deadlock.

They doubled their lead soon after when a |Priest shot was deflected past the High Street keeper.

League chairman Colin Douglas presented the trophies and the man of the match award went to Ashington Northern’s Graeme Buller from Ashington Northern.

In the premier division, Ashington Town Central beat visitors Red Lion Earsdon 2-0 through goals from Stephen Anderson and Kevin Chapman.

Division two saw Ashington Sportring Club and Marden Residents play out a 1-1 draw. Jordan Anderson scored for Sporting Club and Chris Ridgway replied for Residents.

Blyth United Services won 2-1 at home against the Whitehouse Ashington. David Long scored both goals for Services with Ian Kirkup on target for Whitehouse.

Guide Post Social Club and Cramlington Green shared the points in a 2-2 draw. Andrew McLennen scored both goals for Guide Post and Marcus Brown did the double for Green.
