A LYNEMOUTH teenager’s soccer skills have earned him a scholarship in the United States.
Danial Carr has joined Scottsdale College in Arizona through the Pass4Soccer Network.
The left-footed player, who can play centre back, left back and in midfield, took part in a training session and games at the Lilleshall National Sports Centre in Shropshire, which was videoed.
The 17-year-old has been a key member of school teams at Ashington High School and he played for Morpeth Town last season.
He has already travelled to the USA in advance of pre-season, which starts soon.
The scholarship runs for two years at Scottsdale and Danial could then spend two years at a university.
His dad Alan and stepmum Angela have supported his football development, from training costs to taking him to Lilleshall, and they are delighted with what he has achieved.
Mr Carr said: “We had a couple of offers and we decided to go for Scottsdale as it was the best option for both Danial’s football and education and other parents at Lilleshall spoke highly of the place.
“We’re over the moon. It’s an opportunity of a lifetime for him and so far he’s loving every minute of it out there – the only problem issue he has to deal with is the heat.
“Being at Scottsdale will improve his game a lot.
“The facilities are absolutely fantastic and the players have got physios who work with them all the time to get them in great shape.
“There is also a good mixture of different nationalities, including Brazilians and Argentinians.”
Places through the Pass4Soccer Network are now available for potential student athletes seeking to enter US programmes in September 2012 and 2013.
