DAMIEN Mullen scored a late winner for Ashington CFC at home to Consett in the second game of the season back in August – but the match was tarnished by an injury to Woodhorn Lane defender Paul Dunn who suffered a leg fracture.
However, Dunn, 28, a PE teacher at Churchill Community College, made a telling return to the Colliers senior side in the 3-1 victory over Shildon on Saturday.
“The ironic thing about it is that I was on holiday in Cumbria but travelled back to play in the match against Consett,” he said.
“I was quite happy and satisfied with my own performance and delighted at my level of fitness and the result.”
Dunn thanked Ashington Colliers manager David Brown, adding: “I appreciate what David did for me in assisting with my rehab,” he said.
“He involved me in games and if he had not then I would not have been fit.
“Now it’s a case of taking one step at a time.”
