EAST Northumberland Under-15s need to win their last two games if they are to lift the league championship.
On Saturday they led 2-0 at half-time against Newcastle City before going down 4-2.
Manager Paul Messenger said: “We were more than in control in the first half and it was disappointing to lead then present the game to them.
“The lads fell asleep, conceding two goals in quick succession, and then defensive mistakes in last ten minutes led to Newcastle City’s other goals.
“However, we have got to bare in mind that these lads are only 15 years of age and still have lots to learn.”
East North had started well and opened the scoring through Luke Scott with a 30-yard lob over.
Ten minutes later, after a tremendous build up on the left by Scott, Adam Harvey struck the post but Reece Ramsay followed up to score.
East North take on North Tyneside on Saturday (10.30am kick-off) and Chester le Street on Wednesday, March 30 (4.30pm kick-off), with both games being staged at Chantry Middle School in Morpeth.
