The Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League got under way at the weekend with the quarter-finals of the David Crichton Memorial Cup Blyth League section.
Holders Burradon and New Fordley had a comfortable home win against Wansbeck Pots and Slots, scoring nine goals without reply. Leading the scoring with a hat-trick was Steve Howes. Lee waugh and Michael Chilton both scored twice with David Atkinson and Scott Pocklington also on target.
Winning at Blyth and Tyne was Ashington Grand 3-0 thanks to Damien Stevens (2) and Ross Crate.
Ashington Excelsior Sporting Club went down 4-2 at home against Blyth South Beach. Martin Kelly and Jamie Graham scored for Excelsior while Lee Sellers (2), David Thompson and Joe Betts were on target for South Beach.
Newbiggin Bankhouse put up a brave performance at home against Blyth Comrades before eventually losing 5-2. Karl Chisholm and Karl Davison scored for Bankhouse, but goals from Daryl Gallon (3), Daniel Wilson and Paul Joicse won it for Comrades.
The Blyth semi-finals will take place on Tuesday, August 19, with Blyth Comrades at home to Burradon and New Fordley and Blyth South Beach CC entertaining Ashington Grand. Both games kick-off at 6.30pm.
Next Sunday the league starts in earnest with a full league programme.
