Fox Cover come from behind to secure win

IN the Standard Security Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League George Davison Cup, Ashington Fox Cover came from behind to beat Milbourne Arms 7-4 after extra time.

The Milbourne were two minutes away from going through when two defensive mistakes let the Cover come back to level at 3-3.

This seemed to affect Milbourne in extra time and the Cover took advantage.

Goals for Milbourne came from Scott Brotherick and Mathew Lawn both scoring two. On target for the Cover were Jamie Graham, Kris Allington, Aaron Frazer (all scoring two each) and Stephen Dick.

Monkseaton Hunting Lodge also progressed to the next round with a 5-0 win over New Hartley.

In the SA Randolph Cup, Whitley Bay Cibos and Ashington Mortimer produced a nine-goal thriller. In the end Mortimer edged through 5-4.

On target for Mortimer was Jason Riches (2), Martin Humble, Greg Dance and Darren Riddell.

The JD Marnock Cup saw the form team in division two Ashington Grand beat Blyth Seahorse 2-1. Paul Hedley and Richard Morris scored for Grand. David Burt for Seahorse.

The premier division saw a second defeat for Burradon and New Fordley this season, going down 2-1 against Ashington RAOB. Goals for the Buffs came from Kevin Towers and Michael Freathy. Graham Carins scored for Burradon.

Blyth Comrades won 3-2 at home to Newbiggin thanks to goals from Daniel Long (2) and Michael Mens. Tony Messenger and Colin McLellend scored for Newbiggin.

The Eagle also won 3-2 at home to Tynemouth Gunner. The Eagle had Chi Aisbitt and Jeff Fuller (2) on target.

Ashington Grand Street won 5-3 away to High Street. Goals for Grand came from Michael Todd (2), Chris Hogg (2) and Darryl Townsley. Goals for High Street came from Steven Brown (2) and Jason Smart.

New Delaval and Newsham won 7-3 at Monkseaton Arms. Delaval had three players who scored two apeice – Jay Hamilton, Paddy Allen and Craig Frazer. Steven Molloy added their final goal.

Division two leaders Cowpen Percy Arms were made to fight all the way to gain maximum points away to Bedlington Community, securing a 3-1 win with a late strike. Richard Stobbart scored for Community. Goals for the Percy came from Paul Huck, Paul Middleton and Lee Brosnan.

The Newsham are gradually getting better, only conceding four goals at home against Whitley Bay Fat Ox.

The final game of the day saw West Allotment defeat Blagdon Arms by the odd goal in eleven. Goals for the Allotment came from Scott Purcell (3), Steven Cowen, Andrew Jenkins and Keith Smith. On target for the Blagdon were Mark Herron (2), Joe Newton (2), and Karl Boughen.
