AN England World Cup winning hero has presented trophies to a Blyth girls football team.

Sir Geoff Hurst, famous for his hat-trick in the 4-2 win over West Germany in the 1966 World Cup final handed over the awards to Blyth Spartans Junior Girls Under-14s at a tournament at Butlins in Skegness.

The team played several games against other sides from around the country in the annual end of season event.

The club is now looking to expand the team for the new season and is appealing for players in school Year 9 and 10 for the under-15s league.
