Grand just edged out in bid for semi-finals

IN the JD Marcock Cup quarter-final, Blyth and Wansbeck Sunday League second division side Ashington Grand were narrowly beaten by Earsdon Red Lion.

Ross Crate scored for Grand but they went out 2-1.

In the quarter-final of the George Davison cup, two North Shields sides met – and it was the Gunner who ran out 3-1 winners against the Albert.

Second division Whitley Bay Bedroom were at home against premier division Newbiggin, with the visitors taking it 2-1. On target for Newbiggin were Colin McLellend and Tony Messenger.

In the premier division, Ashington Mortimer and Whitley Bay Cibos shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Scoring for the Mortimer was Michael Hogg with Garrick Collins replying.

Burradon and New Fordley moved closer to the leaders with a 4-0 away win at Blyth Comrades. Goals came from Steve Howes (2), Paul Alexander and Paul Willery.

Tynemouth Gunner lost at home against The Eagle. With the Gunner chasing the game, the pace of the Eagle forwards caught them out and they ran out 5-3 winners.

Mathew Lavender led the scoring for the Eagle with a hat-trick. Daniel Hislop and Jeff Fuller scored the others.

Blyth Masons Arms moved further up the league with a 4-1 home win against the High Street. Kevin Long (2), Steven Elsey and Gary McMorland got their goals. Scoring for the High Street with a goal from the halfway line was Shaun Taylor.

Monkseaton Arms won 3-1 at home to Ashington Grand Street. Chris Hogg scored for Grand Street.

In a five-goal thriller, Blyth Seahorse beat hosts New Delaval and Newsham 3-2. Jason Quinn and Michael Kingston scored for Delaval. Seahorse goals were by Craig Smith (2) and lan Erridge.

New Hartley and Milbourne Arms shared the points in a 1-1 draw. Steve Hildrith scored for Hartley. John Hall scored for the Milbourne.

Rockcliffe Arms went down at home against Monkseaton Hunting Lodge by the odd goal in three.

Only two leagues games were played in the second division. Cowpen Percy Arms were made to struggle by Ashington White House before winning 2-1. Graham Whitehead scored for White House. Colin Morton and Dean Fitch for Percy.

Blyth South Beach beat a youthful Bedlington Community side 4-0. Michael Meyers (2), Redmond Cockburn and Adam Todd were on the scoresheet.
