GUISBOROUGH Town assistant manager Steve Dowling admitted that his side were fortunate to take all three points from Saturday’s 2-1 win over Ashington at Woodhorn Lane.
Dowling said: “We were lucky, really. Ashington dominated the first half whilst we were sloppy in possession and gave the ball away cheaply.
“Ashington are a big, powerful, strong team who play to their strengths – they get the ball down and play, whereas we didn’t get the ball moving.”
Dowling was happier after the break – and even more pleased with the result with three extremely tough clashes ahead.
“Second half I was a lot happier because it was a 50-50 game,” he said.
“We did a little bit better and got the breaks and I was delighted with the result as our next three league games are away to Spennymoor, Darlington and Dunston, so points are precious to us.
“This win takes us to 40 points from 27 games, and our points to games is quite good at the moment so we will now push forward.”
