NEW Hartley Juniors saw their hold on The Lady Eden Cup come to an end Saturday with a 2-0 defeat against table toppers Ryton in what was their first home game in more than five months.
Holders Hartley, having previously won their last six games, found Ryton a tough nut to crack and after early pressure Scott Gunn put the visitors in front.
High winds did spoil the game but did no prevent Ryton going further ahead when Gunn netted a second.
This Saturday Hartley hope to get back to winning ways with the long trip to Redcar in the DFA Cup semi-final, a repeat fixture of last season’s final in which Hartley won 4-2.
And on Easter Monday, Ryton again make a trip to Hartley for a league game with a noon kick-off.
