Lifelong Ashington Football Club supporter John Sinclair described it as being the ‘best day of my life’ after receiving a surprise opportunity last week to hold the Northumberland Senior Cup.
The Colliers won the competition for the first time in 33 years at the beginning of May with a 3-0 victory over Whitley Bay at St James’ Park.
Station Court was holding a family fun day opened by Woodhorn Lane chairman Ian Lavery, MP for Wansbeck.
The trophy was taken along to the event and Mr Lavery said: “It was a terrific day being able to take the Northumberland Senior Cup to John at Station Court and a fitting surprise was that another resident was the former chairman of Ashington Football Club Eric Nichol.
“Both John and Eric were absolutely delighted to be able to hold the cup and discuss good days gone by and both have wished the club all the best for the future.”
